Reviews about LASIK MD

  • Great staff, and excellent experience. I was extremely nervous, but the staff and surgeon made me feel secure and answered all of my questions. So glad I got laser eye surgery with Lasik MD!

I have to say, my actual laser treatment experience went very well and I received great service from all staffing involved in the care. However, calling to make my 1 year follow up appointment was less than pleasant for some reason as I could feel much impatience from the man taking my call. I understand these people probably deal with tons of patients calling in to make appointments and having different demands and that can be annoying. However, I feel that people working in customer service should you have some minimal empathy for the patients who also have their own life and jobs and can't always magically make it to the first availability you see on the screen. When I couldn't make it to a couple dates he proposed, he asked me what kind of time frame I was looking for, but not in a inquisitive/helpful way, but rather sounding exasperated as if I was being a particularly difficult patient by daring to ask more questions about the schedule. I tried verifying just once and politely with him whether there really wasn't any spot left a particular week, and he replied 'I believe this is what I have just said' in a very condescending way. When I asked when was the next availability on Saturdays or late afternoons, he said, again very condescendingly, that very obviously, these time frames are very popular so they will not be available for months to come, as if I was stupid for even asking, and that I will be out of my free period by the time they become available since I was already making the appointment 'late'. I was told at my last appointment post-op last year that I would need to make another appointment 'one year from now' and I had even specifically asked the technician if it was a year from my last appointment or from my surgery and I was told from my last appointment so I'm just a little past the 1 year post-op mark by the time I make my call. I tried to clarify this point with this man and he just told me that OBVIOUSLY, for some medical reason I didn't understand, the follow up always had to be one year from the surgery or it won't work otherwise, how could I have thought otherwise. So now I'm at fault for following the instructions I was given and not magically guess the correct medical follow up for the procedure? Then I guess it's also my fault that a private clinic is so overbooked that there are months delay for a suitable appointment time and that I will come out of my 'free period' before I can make it to one. It's bad enough Lasik doesn't offer any automatic reminder emails or call for their mandatory contract follow ups. Before I had my surgery and signed my contract, up until right after my surgery, I never had problems making appointments on the week-ends. I might have needed to wait for 1-2 weeks, but never months and I could feel the staffs really making the effort to find an availability or squeeze me in. This time was a flat 'no' with no effort whatsoever to help find a suitable time beyond the 2-3 dates he proposed with some side dish of sarcasm. So what has changed now compared to before? Has Lasik really become this much busier compared to just last year? I think not. The only conclusion I can derive is that since I already paid everything, I'm no longer as valuable and profitable as a patient to Lasik compared to before. In the end, I could have inquired about other dates, but I didn't want to argue and I was made to feel like I was imposing so much that I just took the first availability he proposed me and I'll have to take half a day off work for it. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand this could happen and if you need to take time off for your health, then you just do it and I could even understand the long delays if told in a polite and professional way. It's the attitude that bothered me though and I could have done without the condescension. The whole conversation didn't take more than 2-3 minutes so I really don't know what's the big deal. I hope I won't be treated this way from now on as I have a 'lifelong' contract with Lasik.
